Hand on My Heart: A Canadian's Awakening in Afghanistan

Why I wrote the book…

I wrote my upcoming book, Hand on My Heart: A Canadian's Awakening in Afghanistan, because I wanted to explore what experiences in Afghanistan meant to me, to identify how my perceptions of feminism and stereotypes had evolved and to figure out how to bring readers and listeners into countless adventures.

The gestation of the book has filled many years. In 2007 at lunch one day while working with homeless people in east Vancouver I sketched an outline on a napkin in a café. Maybe I had a book in me.. I drafted chapters in fits and starts often telling myself that I had other priorities.

About five years ago when exploring what was next, I finally committed to the project that you will soon have the opportunity to hold and delve into. I hope you enjoy the journey.
